Rabbi Dr. Benjamin Lau

Rabbi Dr. Benjamin Lau is the director of the Center of Judaism and Society as well as the Institute for Social Justice at Beit Morasha of Jerusalem.  Rabbi Lau also serves as rabbi of the Ramban Synagogue in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem.  He lectures on halacha and social justice at Beit Morasha's Robert M. Beren College and Bar-Ilan University.  Prior to initiating the Institute for Social Justice, Rabbi Lau founded the Moshe Green Beit Midrash for Women's Leadership at Beren College.

Born in Israel, Rabbi Lau studied at the Har Etzion yeshiva and the Yeshiva of the Kibbutz HaDati.  He was awarded a PhD and MA from Bar-Ilan University.  Rabbi Lau has extensive experience in both formal and informal education.  A charismatic community leader and social activist, Rabbi Lau serves as consultant for a number of leading organizations, is widely published, and has been cited frequently by them edia for his role in recent attempts to reform the rabbinic establishment in the State of Israel.
