Young Israel Movement To U.S. Government: It's Time To Bring Gilad Shalit Home
On the third anniversary of Israeli MIA Gilad Shalit's abduction, the National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) called on American political leaders to intensify their efforts to secure his release.
"After three years in captivity, it is imperative that the United States use its influence to ensure that Hamas frees Gilad Shalit immediately," said NCYI President Shlomo Z. Mostofsky, Esq. "It is time for American officials to make certain that Gilad Shalit's plight is at the forefront of their political agendas and at the center of their diplomatic discussions."
On June 25, 2006, a group of Hamas terrorists crossed into Israel via a tunnel near Kerem Shalom and attacked an army facility that was within Israel's sovereign territory. Gilad Shalit was captured by Hamas on that fateful day, and he has been held captive in Gaza ever since.
"Gilad Shalit's situation has become a living symbol of everything that is wrong with Hamas," said Mostofsky. "By using this young man's life as a bargaining chip, Hamas is showing its true colors and reminding the world of its endless desire to cause pain and anguish to the Jewish nation."
The NCYI reiterated its support for the Israeli government's decision to keep the crossings in and out of Gaza closed until Gilad Shalit is released. In addition, the NCYI renewed its call for the International Red Cross to do all that it can to help free Gilad Shalit.
Mostofsky urged people to continue praying for Gilad ben Aviva, and to pray daily for a safe and speedy return home to his family.
