Young Israel Movement Launches Independence Day Prayer Campaign For Captured American Soldier
In the wake of the reported abduction of an American soldier in Afghanistan by Islamic insurgents, the National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) today launched an Independence Day prayer campaign for his safe return. At the same time, the Young Israel Movement also urged people to continue praying for Israeli MIA Gilad Shalit.
“As Americans mark Independence Day, it is important that we mute our celebrations accordingly and pray that this young American soldier regains his independence immediately,” said NCYI President Shlomo Z. Mostofsky, Esq. “This brave young man put his life on the line to protect us and safeguard the democratic ideals that are the bedrock of this nation and the cornerstones of our faith. It is incumbent upon every American to pray that he is not harmed and released without delay.”
“This young soldier fought to protect our independence; now we must pray to secure his independence,” continued Mostofsky. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, and we look forward to welcoming him home safe and sound.”
In light of the abduction of the American soldier, Mostofsky urged Americans to remain mindful of the plight of Israeli MIA Gilad Shalit. Shalit was captured on June 25, 2006, when a group of Hamas terrorists crossed into Israel and attacked an army facility that was within Israel’s sovereign territory. Shalit has been held captive in Gaza for the past three years.
“We strongly condemn these cowardly abduction tactics that are being carried out by our enemies, and which rob families of their children and nations of their heroes,” Mostofsky said. “By raising our voices in prayer, we hope that these soldiers will triumph over the adversity that faces them behind enemy lines and return home safely.”
