July 24,2009 Membership/Programming News

What a blast!

Our 1st annual YIGC Chulent Cook-off last week was a blast!  The prize for Best Chulent, tickets to an Indians game, donated by our own president, Alan Schabes, went to Diane and Ross Wilkoff.  But actually, everyone who tasted the varieties of delicious chulent was a winner!  Thanks to all the chefs and all the sponsors.

“This was the most fun event I’ve been to in a long time... Thanks, Yank, [and your committee] for your long and hard efforts to make this happen. And thanks to Debby Berger as well for her behind-the-scene role. If you were there an hour before shabbos watching her rescue some of us … you would appreciate [her all the more]!”

Event Detail

In a fascinating journey that takes us through the Orthodox neighborhoods of Jerusalem, as well as to theaters, kibbutzim, army bases, coffee houses and Torah study halls, we follow the footsteps of the Jerusalem saint Rabbi Arye Levin (1885-1969). Realities and memories mingle in this contemporary expedition, interweaving diary entries and philosophical expositions, documentary scenes and powerfully expressive illustrations.

One of the Lamed-Vav is the story of a rabbi and an intellectual of a caliber unequalled to this day, describing the life of a true saint while emphasizing that every human being, regardless of religious inclination, may achieve this same lofty spiritual fulfillment.
